Des Moines man facing over a year an ounce for stolen beer
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – A Des Moines man faces up to 25 years in prison if he is convicted of the first-degree robbery charges filed against him for allegedly stealing a 24-ounce bottle of beer.
According to police, Francisco Soto took the beer from a Des Moines convenience store on Sunday. Police say the 21-year-old Soto pulled a knife on the clerk who tried to keep him from stealing the beer.
Investigators say the clerk called police and gave a description of the suspect.
Police say when they stopped a man matching that description a short time later, the suspect was drinking from a 24-ounce bottle of beer.
Soto is being held in the Polk County Jail on $10,300 bond. The first-degree robbery is a class B felony, punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
