American Idol: Bye Jasmine, Jorge

Here’s a hint: Don’t sing a song that has the word “goodbye” in it. Chances are it’ll be prophetic — as it turned out for Jorge Nunez.

He and Jasmine Murray were the first to bite the dust on “American Idol.” But, surprisingly, they weren’t the worst performers on the show. Kanye West won that honor with a performance that wasn’t just pitchy, it was off-key. Someone also didn’t tell Kanye it’s not cool to wear your pants below your butt. He’s still rockin’ the 2007 look.

Kelly Clarkson turned up, too,  and sang her latest single (which will be a hit) and looked a bit like Candace Cameron from “Full House.”

Thankfully, the judges were pretty mum all night. The contestants did a lot of that fake hugging and seemed genuinely relieved when foreign exchange student Jorge and saved-from-the-brink Jasmine were the first to go home. Anoop Desai had to be shaking in his new Nikes. But Megan Corkrey was just darn lucky she didn’t make like “Rockin’ Robin” and fly the coop.

Adam Lambert is beginning to look like a ’50s female pop star. The hair has got to be cut.

And Danny Gokey thinks he’s another Sarah Palin. All those frames, dude, are not good.

The big twist: The judges get to bring one person back from the brink. They didn’t spend the get-out-of-jail card tonight. I bet they save it for Scott.
