I think the Journal has photographed more soccer this season than we have in any previous year. And that’s a good thing because soccer is one fun sport to shoot. Pics from today’s game were shot with my Canon 50D and 200/2 lens with a 2X extender.

I’m a dumbass. In one of my biggest oops moments in a long, long time, I accidentally reformatted one of my cards before downloading my pics. But luckily Matt Holst, Iowa City Press-Citizen photographer, had photo recovery software on his computer and was able to save my butt (and the photos of Shelby Houlihan.) Thanks Matt!

And once again I’ll be adding more photos to the gallery as the day goes on (providing I don’t have another major oops moment.)

Maybe I owe an apology to one track fan. I was rushing to an event and some fan yells to me, “Hey, how long is that lens.” I held out my hands about 14 inches apart and said “About that long.” Yeah, I’m a bit of a smart alec.

Once again I’ll be adding photos to the gallery throughout the day. The East girls already got off to a great start winning the distance medley relay in record fashion. Photos from that race are already up.

There may only be a few pics in there right now, but I’ll be adding a lot more to the gallery as the day goes on. Enjoy!

State Track

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

I arrived in DesMoines last night and I’m ready for three loooooong days of state track. I’m a bit concerned after arriving at Drake stadium and seeing an extreme shortage of chairs in the photographers work room. I looked out at the track and I saw several volunteers sitting in chairs. Hmmm, I wonder where they got them from.

Well, I got on the SPF 80. Those pasty white legs of mine are going to remain pasty white. Anyway, check back later for updates and photo galleries.

I wish it would have been about 20 degrees warmer, but that didn’t stop the Sioux City Roller Dames from having fun while washing cars at the Hamilton Blvd HyVee parking lot Saturday. You can catch the Roller Dames in action at their next home bout on June 13th and I believe they will also be making an appearence during Awesome Biker Nights.

So I show up for the East/Heelan soccer game thinking I’m about 15 minutes early. As I’m walking in I ask the lady at the gate if that was the JV game that was still going on, she tells me it is. So I’m wandering around a bit hoping to find a roster and maybe make a pit stop in the restroom, then someone tells me that it was the varsity games that was going on right now. Apparently the JV and varsity teams switched times. So I ended up with about 12 minutes to shoot photos.
