I am learning the hard way that the Canon 2X Extender does not like bright white uniforms in bright sunlight, at least when I am shooting with the lens wide open. It produces an effect called chromatic abberation, which produces a haloing effect around some portions of the photo.

After shooting this photo, which I kinda liked but it looked even worse after being reproduced in the paper, I did some testing with my 200/2 lens and the 2X extender. I was able to reproduce the effect, but found it is worse when I am shooting wide open at f/4. At f/4.5 the effect was barely noticeable and at f/5 the effect was gone. I’ll still use the 200/2 and 2X Extender combination, but I’ll just have to avoid shooting wide open.

I also have the 1.4 Extender which works great on my 200/2. I’ve never seen any problems with that combination at it produces great results even when shooting wide open at f/2.8.

I ran into an acquaintance right before the concert who saw I had a photo pass and quickly offered to carry my cameras for me. Well, I don’t exactly get the best seat in the house when shooting concerts at the Orpheum. I was placed at the very back of the theatre next to the soundboards. Plus I was only allowed to stay for the first three songs. So having that photo pass isn’t exactly glamorous. If a person really wants to see a concert, I recommend getting a ticket.

Photos were shot with my Canon 50D camera and I was using my 200/2 lens, some shots were with a 2X Extender, some without.

It was hot out there today, but it was so worth it. The air show was great, it was free, and the food stand had 50 cent hot dogs and pop. I was glad I didn’t eat lunch before I went out there.

I kept it simple today, used both camera bodies, My Canon 40D with a 10-22mm lens on it and my 50D with the 70-200 and that was it.
