It’s almost a small miracle: me waking up before sunrise. But some assignments call fro extreme measures.

Many of the pics were taken with my Canon 50D and 200/2, mostly with the 1.4 extender attached. And the wide shots were taken with my 40D with a 17-40mm lens.

Well, it really wasn’t that bad tonight, it was only a light misty rain. And if this is the worse we have it for the season, then I’d call it a good year. But of course we still have a few more weeks to get through.

Shooting tonight with my Canon 50D and 200/2 lens. Most of the pics were at ASA 3200, 1/640 second at f/2.8. The light fades off near the end zones so some of the shots were taken at different exposures.

Roller Dames Rolling Along The River

October 8th, 2009

Calendar Blog

As some of you may know, one of my favorite past times is photographing the Sioux City Roller Dames. I spent much of my free time this summer shooting a series of alter-ego portraits of the Dames. This has been one of the most fun and rewarding projects I have done in a long time. And some of the best photos from the project are being used on a calendar that the team will be selling as a fund-raiser.

The calendars should be back from the printers in time for this weekends Rolling Along the River Tournament. So while you at at the Long Lines Family Rec Center watching the Dames and six other teams in action this weekend (starting at 10 am Saturday and at noon on Sunday) make sure you stop by the merchandise table and pick up a calendar.

If the receiver would have been facing towards me in this photo, then this would probably be my new favorite football photo of the season.Shot with a Canon 50D and 200mm f/2 lens. ASA 3200, 1/640 second at f/2.8.

The light was fading fast and there were only five people marching the entire distance. I shot some straight-on shots with my 70-200 as they approached me, but those photos looked rather boring. So as the participants marched past me, I shot from a low angle with my 17-40mm lens and set the exposure manually to expose for the sky as they walked past. Exposure was ASA 800, 1/1000 second at f/9.

I wish the background was a bit cleaner, but I still like this shot with the defender hanging on by the toe trying to prevent a touchdown. I think this is my favorite football photo of the season so far. You can imagine my disappointment when I picked up the paper this morning and saw that it was not used in the print edition.

Shooting inside the Dakota Dome using a Canon 50D and 200mm f/2 lens with 1.4 Extender. Exposure was at ASA 3200, 1/640 second at f/2.8 for most photos.
