Woman back to prison for stabbing same man

A Sioux City woman has been sentenced to prison for stabbing the same man for a second time.

According to court documents, Sandra Edwards, 40, will serve up to two years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated domestic assault for the Aug. 11 stabbing of Tracy Godfrey under the Veterans Memorial Bridge in Sioux City.

Mother and boy, 13, on run to avoid his chemo

Ladies and gentlemen, we have another family on the run.

Authorities say a southwestern Minnesota woman and her 13-year-old son have fled the state, possibly the country, to avoid court-ordered chemotherapy treatment for the boy.

Danny Hauser has cancer.

His parents, Anthony and Colleen Hauser, fought a losing legal battle to continue to treat their son’s Hodgkin’s lymphoma  according to their Internet-based Native American religion. They did not want to use chemotherapy.

Rowena Schade’s plea: “Please somebody help us”

One of the two parents who led authorities on a two-state chase — including a ground and air search of the Black Hills — is asking for help.

But it’s not what you think.

Sioux Falls television station KSFY posted a letter it received from Rowena Schade, the Creighton, Neb., woman who fled to the Black Hills earlier this month with her husband, Matthew Schade, and their two children.

Police: 170 “malnourished” horses taken from farm

Some disturbing news is surfacing about the poor condition of 170 horses owned by a well-known horse breeder.

Blogs first reported that rescue groups were claiming to have rescued emaciated, lice-infested horses — either owned or formerly owned by Ernie Paragallo — from a kill lot awaiting shipment to a slaughterhouse.

Relatives provide reporter tip that leads to suspect’s location, arrest

A former South Sioux City woman was arrested this week in connection with the 2006 death of her former foster child, Nathaniel Saunsoci-Mitchell.

The woman, Tisha Vega, had been wanted since July for a charge of manslaughter.

The Journal had been trying to track Vega down for about a month, which is when my editor asked me to do a follow-up story on the investigation into the 20-month-old toddler’s death.

Police: Student’s quick thinking fends off attack

Police say a female University of South Dakota student fought off an attempted sexual assault on March 20 by hitting the attacker in the face with a high heeled shoe.

Vermillion Police Chief Art Mabry believes that the victim, who he said was walking home from a fraternity dance, may have hit the attacker hard enough to leave a noticable mark.

Prosecutors: Associates fed Anna Nicole Smith thousands of drugs

More information was released today about what drugs the late Anna Nicole Smith was on, how she got them and who gave them to her.

The Associated Press has an interesting article on the wire today, which tells more about the nuts and bolts of the investigation into her death — it was on Tribal land — and information on the massive quantity of pills she had access to.

Police arrest Anna Nicole Smith’s supposed drug dealers

I always wondered how Anna Nicole Smith got her drugs. Now, the police think they arrested the three men responsible.

And yes, one of the is Howard K. Stern.

Now, if Larry Birkhead — the father of the woman’s surviving child — would stop auctioning the kid’s memories to the highest bidder and throwing the girl in front of every camera he sees, the child just might have a shot at a happier life than her ill-fated mother.

Good news to all you animal lovers out there: Acea Schomaker says he’s not smoking marijuana anymore.

Considering what police officers in Lincoln, Neb., allegedly fished out of the last bong he was smoking, that’s probably a good thing — especially if you’re a cat.
