SIOUX CITY — Thinking about making a late-night run to the corner store to buy some cool refreshing beer?

It’s not a bad idea, but you might want to drive instead of walk.
A Sioux City teen faces a felony robbery charge for allegedly attacking another man and stealing his beer.

According to court documents, Luis Flores, 17, pleaded not guilty Monday to one charge of second-degree robbery, a Class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

This seems to happen a lot in Sioux City.

Police log: A smorgasbord of Sioux City crime

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

There’s been some interesting things in the Sioux City police log lately, dealing with a wide variety of situations – alcohol, pets, trampolines, flowers and, of course, petty crime of all kind.

None of them were big enough to warrant a story, at least not according to the information I received, but I thought you might find them interesting.

Police log: Some jailbirds fly right to police

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

Flashing red and blue lights inspire some suspects to rev the engine, mash the accelerator to the floor and speed away until they crash or drive across a set of stop sticks.

That sobriety test would’ve been a lot easier if…

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

A Sioux City man charged with drunk driving had an unsual — and painful — excuse for not completing field sobriety tests.

A Rock Valley man is going to prison for up to 15 years for burglary, drunk driving and leading police on a high-speed chase.

However, what he stole and how he did it are far more interesting than his court sentence.

Who he stole it from is also noteworthy and, if I were her, I’d be very upset.

Time to change the locks

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Sometimes you know it’s going to be a bad day as soon as you wake up in the morning.

It appears that may have been the case for a Sioux City woman, who called police about 8:15 a.m. Monday to report a disturbing discovery.

It involved her car and her ex-boyfriend, which is never a good combination.

Beer sliders everywhere can breathe easier

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

It was a victory for beer sliders everywhere.

On Wednesday, the Iowa Court of Appeals became the beer-oriented set’s favorite judicial institution after ruling a Wall Lake bowling ally owner did not knowingly allow a RAGBRAI beer slider to get naked.

It happened during Iowa’s greatest bike tour on July 25, 2004, at Lake Lanes Bowling Alley in Wall Lake, a city about 80 miles east of Sioux City.

Boger contended that he never advertised a naked beer slide.
