What’s that charbroiled scent?

Before I had to start watching my intake of fat and cholesterol, Burger King’s Whopper was one of my favorite sandwiches. As much as I enjoyed eating the flame-broiled meat, however, I have no interest whatsoever in marinating myself with the flavor.

But the fast-food chain apparently believes the smell is not only the way to a man’s stomach, but also a woman’s heart. It’s rolling out a men’s body spray called Flame by BK. New York retailer Ricky’s NYC is selling the fragrance in its stores and online for a limited time for $3.99 for a 5-ml bottle.

The response to this unconventional product has been predictable, with the local, national and international news media having a great deal of fun with headlines for the story.

Here are some examples, “Appetite for seduction: BK’s new fragrance, “Is that lunch or your cologne?” and my favorite, ”Nothing drives ladies crazier than the smell of Burger King,”

As you might guess, product reviews were not good. Below a blogger describes his experience after applying some of the cologne.

“The result was predictably revolting: Everyone gathered around began coughing… Try as I might, I could not smell anything related to meat.”

“If you want to know what a Burger King smells like when it’s burning down in a horrible grease fire, though, this is probably as close as you get to the real thing. The acrid, eye-watering scent will not attract anything to you. Even my dog would start choking if it licked this off my wrist.”
