Counting Crows singer Adam Duritz is a fan of Twitter. It’s no surprise then that his day in Sioux City was the focus of a few posts and discussions.
Here’s an abridged version of a day in the life of Durtiz on Twitter (taken from his Twitter posts made July 4):
Where am I today? The lovely town of Sioux City, IA (pop. around 83,000). 1st explored in the Summer of 1804 by Lewis & Clark by the way.12:47 PM Jul 4th from web
That would be “1st explored” by people of European descent. Sioux City was, of course, probably explored by plenty of Sioux before that.12:49 PM Jul 4th from web
I gotta run. I need to make up a set list for the good people of Sioux City. Be proud of yourselves today and have some [expletive] fun.12:59 PM Jul 4th from web
RT @EasterRat@countingcrows yeah, but who was there before the Sioux?1:03 PM Jul 4th from web
Well, since the Sioux were fairly warlike & migratory, I would assume there were a bunch of other Native Americans running for their lives.1:05 PM Jul 4th from web
Actually, Wikipedia doesn’t have [expletive] on the Pre-European Native American history of this area at all.1:10 PM Jul 4th from web
They DO mention that it is the burial site of Charles Floyd, shockingly the only man to die on the Lewis & Clark Expedition. Nicely done L&W1:11 PM Jul 4th from web
Also the location of Pulaski park, named after the Polish General who fought in the Revolutionary War.1:12 PM Jul 4th from web
Sadly, not named after the great song by Sufjan Stevens about the Polish General who fought in the Revolutionary War.1:13 PM Jul 4th from web
@RockyCal tells us the area was 1st colonized across the Bering Strait by eventual ProtoAmerican Indians of the Mississippi Valley1:36 PM Jul 4th from web
This was a very advanced civilization for its time (which, as in many cases throughout history, doesn’t stop them being wiped out)1:39 PM Jul 4th from web
RT @RockyCal So backwards in time: Europeans, Soiux, Mississippian Culture, American ProtoIndians, Origianal Proto indians…Dinosaurs

Not to criticize her because she lets me lecture in her class & she’s smart as hell…but she misspelled “Sioux” & forgot about “mammals”.1:41 PM Jul 4th from web
Now leave me alone. I have to make the setlist.1:41 PM Jul 4th from web
In retrospect, Sioux City was the perfect place to be today. I can’t imagine anywhere I would rather have played on the 4th of July.11:50 PM Jul 4th from Tweetie
Thank you so much Sioux City. 30,000 people & you were the best audience any band could ever hope for. St. Louis & Sioux City were the joint11:53 PM Jul 4th from Tweetie
