Palin’s Sioux City event moved to noon

We have word late this morning that the Dec. 6 booksigning event for 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has been moved up an hour to a noon start. That means the opening to receive a wristband to get lined up for a copy of “Going Rogue” has also moved up from 7 a.m. to 6 a.m., reports Alisha Karr of the Sioux City Barnes & Noble Booksellers, who has been good to work with in event run-up.

I doubt the earlier start will deter people from attending — fans of Palin are fans of Palin, regardless of the time. They knew their Sunday morning, whether that typically includes a church stop or not, would be spent in line to get the best shot at nabbing a Palin autograph on the book that’s a big seller.

The first-week sales for “Going Rogue: An American Life” hit 700,000, which compares favorably against the first-week sales of 600,000 of Hillary Clinton’s “Living History,” released in June 2003.  Of course, Clinton had the upper hand in one other stat related to the books the two women wrote — she got an $8 million advance, higher than Palin’s $5 million.

Slate magazine took a look at the Palin book and noted that “Going Rogue” doesn’t contain an index. (A way to cut costs to make that $5 million advance?) Slate went through the book and laid out an entertaining index of topics covered.

One last Palin book note: She’s the heroine in a new children’s book titled “Help! Mom! Radicals Are Ruining My Country” (pictured above) by author Katharine DeBrecht. In a cameo appearance Palin lookalike “Governor Sarah” attempts to help two boys with a struggling swingset business muddle through despite high taxes and burdensome regulations.  She lets the kids know “radicals are killing the American Dream.”

  • There was no index for the book so that people, such as media folks, couldn’t go through and cherry pick sections without reading the whole thing.
