King: Truth-O-Meter and Pelosi

A couple items regarding Northwest Iowa Congressman Steve King. First, he’s jumped to the head of the line of Republicans demanding the removal of U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, according to a fresh report this morning on Politico. In a Fox News interview, King said Nancy Pelosi knew about U.S. torture policies and politicized the torture topic in a way that made her “an enemy of national security.”

He said House Speakers have been removed for lesser offenses. King was a big supporter of former GOP House Speaker Tom “The Hammer” Delay, and hasn’t been happy with the Pelosi leadership. Some of his press releases have omitted her first name and just gone with “Pelosi” on all references. It’s not surprising he wants her gone.

Fox anchor Megyn Kelly says she’s never seen Pelosi so rattled as  in discussing what she knew about the torture practices back in President Bush’s first term. King’s Fox News interview is here below:

Secondly, yesterday PolitiFact took a look at King’s claim of  May 6 that the federal Hate Crimes Prevention Act bill wending through Congress would create “special protection for pedophiles.” In vetting King’s claim through some scholars, PolitiFact’s Truth-O-Meter determines King is off base, to the point of “Pants On Fire wrong.”

A professor said the bill’s critics are setting up a straw man as a way of arousing public fear. Here’s the link to the Truth-O-Meter on King’s pedophile statement.
