Dog Jog and Walk will be Saturday at Bacon Creek Park

Posted: Friday, May 09, 2003
The first Modern Woodman of America Dog Jog and Walk will be Saturday in Bacon Creek Park.

Activities will begin at 9 a.m. with registration and check-in near Shelter One for a timed 5k fun run. Medals will be awarded for the first three places in various age groups.

Following the fun run will be a walk at 10 a.m. Registration and check-in for the walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. Dogs must be on leases for this event.

A $20 entry fee will cover the jog or walk, a Dog Jog T-shirt and bandana for your dog. Proceeds will go toward a fence for the proposed dog park in Sioux City, a fund-raising project of Siouxland Off Leash Association (SOLA) in partnership with the Sioux City Parks and Recreation Department. Modern Woodman of America will match the proceeds up to $2,500.

In addition to the jog/walk, there will be a silent auction, door prizes, booths of dog-related businesses, and a hot dog lunch. The Siouxland Humane Society will be there with dogs for adoption.

SOLA is a nonprofit, tax exempt, all-volunteer organization whose mission is to open a dog park in Sioux City. The dog park will be an area enclosed by a 6-foot chain link fence with a walking path so that families can walk while their dogs get exercise off leash.
