Cherokee plans winter golf tournament

Posted: Friday, January 07, 2005
The Cherokee Parks and Recreation Department has announced the date for the 18th annual Off-Shore Masters Winter Golf Tournament. The winter attraction will be Saturday.

Also on the same day, the second annual On-Shore Masters Disc Golf Tournament will be held on the River's Edge Disc Golf Course.

The Off-Shore Masters will be at Koser-Spring Lake Park in Cherokee. The tourney format includes a nine-hole par-34 course, with the tees on land and the sand greens on frozen Spring Lake. Only 6-9 irons and putters are allowed for clubs, and colored balls are required.

There is a $15 green fee, with plaques awarded to the top three places, and cash prizes for all flight winners. Many drawings for door prizes will be held throughout the day.

The On-Shore Masters Disc Golf Tournament will be held in conjunction with the Off-Shore Masters. The tourney format includes a nine-hole par 35 course located in the park next to Spring Lake. There is a $10 green fee, with prizes awarded. Golf discs will be on sale at the Spring Lake Yacht Club that day.

The tournaments are fund-raisers for the Cherokee Parks and Recreation Department's playground improvement fund.

Call (712) 225-2715 or e-mail cityckerd@evertek.net to book a tee time.
