LOWER BRULE, S.D. (AP) -- The Lower Brule Sioux Tribe and the U-S Department of Agriculture are working together to clean up unauthorized dumping sites.
Appliances, furniture, abandoned vehicles and other garbage have been dumped in ditches and other areas on the reservation.
South Dakota Rural Development State Director Lynn Jensen says the tribe has been given a grant totaling 385-thousand dollars.
The money will be used to purchase equipment to clean ditches, clear abandoned vehicles and contain trash.
Lower Brule Sioux Tribal Chairman Michael Jandreau says the tribe is happy to receive the money and will use it for services the Lower Brule Environmental Protection Office couldn't previously provide.
