Cardiology Conference planned Oct. 19

Mercy Medical Center-Sioux City, Cardiovascular Associates and St. Luke's Regional Medical Center will co-sponsor the 21st annual Cardiology Update from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Sioux City Convention Center.

The annual conference for physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals seeks to provide the most current information in the diagnosis, evaluation, treatment and medical management of cardiovascular disease.

Richard E. Kerber, M.D., professor and associate division director of cardiovascular diseases for the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa, will address conference attendees on the topic of "New Advances in Defibrillation and Resuscitation."

John Anderson, M.D., cardiothoracic surgeon for Mercy Medical Center-Sioux City, will discuss "New and Innovative Operations Determining the Future of Cardiothoracic Surgery."

Steve Ommen, M.D., associate professor of medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minn., will discuss advances in echocardiography for the diagnosis of heart disease. Joseph Nally Jr., M.D., clinician at the Center for Clinical Hypertension in Cleveland, Ohio, will teach conference participants about evidenced-based management of hypertension.

Kathleen Wyne, M.D., Ph.D., assistant professor for the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, will present "Diabetes Risk of Coronary Artery Disease."

Continuing education credit will be available for physicians, nurses, pre-hospital personnel and other healthcare professionals.

The cost for the one-day conference is $75 for physicians and midlevel providers and $55 for all other healthcare professions provided that registrations are postmarked by Oct 10. Late registration fees will be $10 more after that date.
