Vilsack pushes business creativity

DES MOINES -- Gov. Tom Vilsack said Thursday he will appoint a commission to help businesses be more creative.
"Innovation is the key, folks. We have got to step up our game," he said.
Vilsack made the announcement at a conference on rural economic development. He said the commission will make Iowa more competitive in the national and global economy.
He also put a price tag of $50 million on his previously announced plan for a state infrastructure fund.
The money would be used for a variety of business development purposes, including new buildings, grants for companies developing new products, and hiring new university faculty members.
The conference was hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, which inspired Vilsack to begin his speech with a zinger about the University of Iowa football team's recent success against the University of Illinois.
"Not only do we appreciate Illinois dollars coming across the border, but we really appreciate that Illinois football team coming over from time to time," he said.
