Mike and Cheryl Wells have been named honorary chairs for the 2006 Plymouth County Heart Walk. The couple's appointment was announced by Linda Wadedo Jochims, regional director for the Siouxland American Heart Association.
The heart poster baby will be Mitch Michael Roling, son of Mike and Pam Roling of Remsen, Iowa. He was born Feb. 16, 2005, with the congenital heart defect tricuspid atresia.
Mitch had a banding surgery at two weeks and now needs a series of two surgeries to reroute the blood flow in his heart. His last surgery was a month ago and he will undergo another surgery a year from now. Dr Eyad Najdawi at Prairie Pediatrics is his heart pediatrician. Mitch has a twin sister, Megan Sue.
A Heart Walk kickoff for the business community is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at American Bank in Le Mars. Dave Smetter of Wells' Blue Bunny will be the master of ceremonies. The 2006 Plymouth/Sioux County Heart Walk event will be May 6, 2006.
Mike Wells is president of the Demand Group at Wells' Blue Bunny. He is past president of the Iowa Dairy Foods Association and continues to serve on that board as well as several nonprofit organizations at the local and state level.
Cheryl Wells is the executive director of the Living Center in Le Mars and serves on the national board of Youth For Christ. She also is involved with other nonprofit organizations.
Both Mike and Cheryl Wells serve on the state board of the Iowa Family Policy Center which is an affiliate of Focus on the Family and are involved with Dr. Gary and Barb Rosberg in Divorce Proofing America.
Mike and Cheryl Wells opened the Living Center three years ago as a resource for people and families. They share how God has taken their marriage from broken to beautiful. The couple have four children, ages 10 to 27.
The heart walk is a major fund-raiser for the organization to support CPR, public health and community and professional education in Siouxland.
