LE MARS, Iowa (AP) -- Preliminary autopsy results show a Sioux City police officer whose body was found in his home died of carbon monoxide poisoning, officials with the Plymouth County sheriff's office said.
Officer John P. Hooks, 36, was found dead in the home he shared with his mother on Nov. 21.
Sheriff Mike Van Otterloo said the investigation concluded that no foul play was involved.
Hooks had been the focus of an investigation into a sexual abuse allegation filed with the sheriff's office on Nov. 7.
No charges were filed and the case is now closed following Hooks' death, said Terry Klooster, special agent with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
Hooks joined the Sioux City Police Department in 2002 and had previously been a member of the North Sioux City, S.D., Police Department.
