STORM LAKE, Iowa -- "BVU Collects," an exhibit of 15 artworks in a wide variety of media, is the current exhibit at the Buena Vista University Art Gallery. The show runs through Feb. 20.

The exhibit consists of artwork owned by the university or on loan from BVU staff and current or former faculty members. Works include a goatskin parchment, lithograph, acrylic and oil paintings, pen and ink, sculpture, ceramics, oil stick and serigraph.

Ann K. Petersen, professor of education at BVU, loaned an oil painting painted by her daughter-in-law, Jiha Moon Wilson, for inclusion in the exhibit.

"Jiha is from Seoul, South Korea, and lives just outside Washington, D.C.," said Petersen. "She is an art teacher at the Korean Cultural Center and exhibits a lot."

Petersen noted that in 2005 she won the $10,000 Best in Show Trawick Prize for outstanding contemporary art. Her painting in this BVU show, "Visiting Grandma," was painted when she was a student at the University of Iowa. She now works in watercolor on raw silk.

Recently the Washington Post named her art show as one of the 10 outstanding shows of 2005.

An eight-color lithograph with embossing, owned by the university, by Claes Oldenburg entitled "Perfume Atomizer on a Pillow" is also on exhibit. Oldenburg is an internationally known artist and along with his wife, Coosie van Bruggen, for the past 30 years have been designing large-scale sculptures installed in cities throughout the world.

One of the large-scale sculptures is "Crusoe's Umbrella," which was completed in 1979 and is located at the Nolen Plaza in Des Moines.

The Buena Vista University Art Gallery is located near the Information Technology Center in Siebens Forum. The hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. It is closed during university holidays. For more information, call (712) 749-2143.
