A Plymouth County jury has convicted Richard Heien in the hit-and-run death of Joan Wilson.

Heien was charged with hitting Wilson on a rural Brunsville road while jogging on May 2, 2004, then leaving the scene. On Monday, David Probst testified that he smelled alcohol on Heien's breath when he saw him the morning of the accident.

Heien faced charges of vehicular homocide, involuntary manslaughter and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. He was found guilty on all charges. His sentencing will be set at a later date.

The jury began deliberations mid-morning Tuesday, deliberating for an hour before announcing its decision shortly around 11:30 a.m. Heien sat stoic as the verdict was read.

Neil Wilson, Joan's husband was reserved, but said justice was served. "We just praised the Lord for the fact that the truth came out. We live in a fallen world and truth is at a premium."
