Oglala Lakota College gets scholarship matching money

KYLE, S.D. (AP) -- Oglala Lakota College has received some major help toward scholarships and a business center.
The Johnson Scholarship Foundation has agreed to contribute $200,000 a year for four years if OLC matches with $300,000 annually.
The school already raised that amount for the first year, so the account has $500,000 in it, according to a news release from the school.
The goal is to raise $2 million and use the interest for business and entrepreneurship scholarships and a business center starting in 2009.
"This financial support leads to greater self-determination for our people on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation," OLC President Thomas Shortbull said in the release.
The school hopes to raise a total of $6 million in scholarship money by 2011, he said.
