Rounds announces committee on health insurance

Posted: Tuesday, May 09, 2006
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) -- Gov. Mike Rounds has formed a committee to look at state employee health insurance issues, according to Corey Landeen, executive secretary of the South Dakota State Employees Organization.

Rounds announced the panel last week while speaking to the association, Landeen said.

Health care coverage has become a major concern for many state employees the past few months, he said.

Customer service from the provider hired by the state is the biggest frustration -- more so than even the cost of the health care benefit, according to Landeen.

He said seven state employees and two alternates will make up the committee. The group's mission has not yet been defined, but it will serve "as the eyes and ears" of the governor and report back to him, Landeen said.

No date has been set for the group's first meeting or when recommendations will be offered to Rounds.
