Elderly Nutrition

Persons 60 years of age and older and their spouses may participate in the elderly nutrition program in Siouxland. In Sioux City, meals are served Tuesday-Thursday at Riverside Lutheran Church, 1817 Riverside Blvd.; on Monday at Riverside Gardens' Community Room, 715 Bruner Ave., Fairmount Park, 210 S. Fairmount St., and Mount Olive Baptist Church, 1522 Douglas St.

A suggested contribution is $2.75 or what each person can afford without causing a financial hardship.

Reservations are required a day in advance by calling the Sergeant Bluff site, 943-5356; and Mount Olive site, 255-5465, or the Siouxland Aging Services nutrition office at 279-6900, ext. 15. For more information about other available meal sites, call Siouxland Aging Services at 279-6900.

Monday: Liver and onions or hamburger steak, cheesy mashed potatoes, corn, lettuce salad with dressing, fresh orange

Tuesday: Meatloaf, baked potato, broccoli, fruited pudding

Wednesday: Roast pork, mashed potatoes, gravy, squash, rosy applesauce

Thursday: Polish sausage on a bun, boiled potatoes, sauerkraut, sour cream raisin bar

Friday: Creamed chicken, biscuit, green beans, coleslaw, strawberry shortcake



Siouxland senior center

The Siouxland Senior Center, 217 Pierce St., is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Weekly classes, programs:

Monday: Tap class, 9 a.m.; book worms, 10 a.m; good times organ music, 11 a.m.; duplicate bridge, 11:30 a.m.; Monday at the Movies "State Fair," pinochle, woodcarving, 1 p.m.; fitness, 3:15 p.m.

Tuesday: Penny bingo, 8:30 a.m.; Tai Chi, 9:15 a.m.; painting class, 9:30 a.m.; craft project, beginning Spanish, creative writing, 10 a.m.; advanced Spanish, 11 a.m.; pitch, 12:30 p.m.; painting class, intermediate Spanish, tap practice, 1 p.m.

Wednesday: Silvertones, 8:30 a.m.; yoga with Dorene, 9 a.m.; chorus, 9:15 a.m.; Talk Show "Old Time Radio," 10:30 a.m.; bridge, 12:30 p.m.; Mardi Gras Senior Ball with Art & Gwen Schmidt band, 1 p.m.; duplicate bridge, 6:30 p.m.

Thursday: Penny bingo, 8:30 a.m.; walking club, 9 a.m.; advanced line dance, Men's Club, 10 a.m.; beginning line dance, 12:30 p.m.; cribbage, 12:45 p.m.; intermediate German, bridge group, basic line dance,1 p.m.; beginning German, Alzheimer's meeting, 2 p.m.; yoga with Dorene, 3 p.m.

Friday: Fitness with Sandy, 9:30 a.m.; blood pressure, 10 a.m.; sing-a-long, 10:45 a.m.; bridge group, 11:30 a.m.; bridge, 500, scrabble, 1 p.m.; no dance.

South Sioux City senior center

The South Sioux City Senior Center, 1501 W. 29th St.; 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. office hours Monday through Friday; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. services Monday through Friday.

Activities: 9 a.m. senior bowling at Harmony Lanes, Monday; 11 a.m. Card Club, Monday and Friday; 9 a.m. billiards tournaments, second, third, and fourth Tuesday; 1 p.m. line dance lessons with Arlene Whalen, Tuesday; 10 a.m. music by Doc Stewart and Elsie Brown, Thursday; 7 p.m. jam session by Sonny Woten, Friday; 10 a.m. New Life Exercise Class, Monday, Wednesday, Friday.

A daily meal is served from noon to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Pre-registration the day before is appreciated. Suggested donation is $3 per meal for persons 60 and over, and $5 for persons under 60. Take-outs available (same donation rate as eat-in meals). Home-delivered meals at $3.60. Prefer advance notice, call 494-1500.

Home-delivered meals are available in South Sioux City, Dakota City and surrounding area to elderly and handicapped persons. Menu and newsletter available monthly.

This week's menu:

Monday: Evening meal. Roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, pears, dessert

Tuesday: Chicken tenders, potato wedges, mixed vegetables, pineapple

Wednesday: Tuna salad sandwich, carrots, macaroni salad, baked apples

Thursday: BBQ pork chops, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, apricots

Friday: Spaghetti, meat sauce, peas, cauliflower with cheese, peaches

North Sioux City senior center

North Sioux City senior meals cooked at site and available at noon five days a week at the North Sioux City Senior Center, 114 Main St. Persons age 60 and over and their spouses are eligible; suggested donation, $2.50. Persons under 60 welcome at $4.88 per meal. Call 232-0808 the day before to make reservations.

The meal site is closed on federal holidays.

Take-outs or home-delivered meals available for those confined to their home or have temporary illness. Some advance notice needed.
