A 21-year-old Sioux City man has earned a seat at the World Series of Poker's Main Event in Las Vegas, a $10,000 buy-in tournament. The event begins Friday and can last for more than a week, with last year's winner earning $7.5 million.
Eric Nelson, proudly wearing his Sioux City T-shirt, had a handsome payout at a World Series of Poker event Monday in Las Vegas. The 21-year-old who lives on Red Fox Run in Sioux City was one of the 2,050 entrants in the $2,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold 'Em tournament which began Sunday. Because he had entered via a previous satellite tournament, his actual buy-in was only $500. Nelson finished in 113th place, receiving $3,731.
"It was awesome, a great experience," Eric said. "I loved it. And, frankly, the players were worse than I had expected."
