Immigrants' role in future workforce is session topic

{M3Norma DeLao and Karen Mackey will present a program on immigration, culture, diversity and human rights as they relate to employment and the workforce at 1 p.m. on Aug. 17 at Western Iowa Tech Community College.
DeLao was born in Mexico, raised in the United States. She has been a Siouxland native since 1970. She has been with the New Iowan Center Program since its inception in September 2000. The New Iowan Centers assists new residents, primarily immigrants, in their new communities, especially with workforce issues. She also works with employers on issues of immigration and labor.
Karen Mackey is a Sioux City native and an enrolled member of the Santee Sioux Tribe of Nebraska. She earned a bachelor of science degree in sociology from Morningside College and a law degree from the University of Nebraska College of Law; she is licensed in Iowa and Nebraska.
Mackey is the executive director of the Sioux City Human Rights Commission. Her expertise with the Human Rights Commission is in the legal arena of discrimination complaint processes; she is also an expert in issues related to a multicultural workplace, mainly concerning the perspective of a Native American.
The luncheon program begins at 11:30 a.m. and concludes at 1 p.m. in Building B, Room L416-417, at Western Iowa Tech Community College, 4647 Stone Avenue, Sioux City. Use parking lot 3 and entrance 11.
This program is free to all Siouxland Society for Human Resource Management members. Guests are welcome to attend for $20 ($10 for student nonmembers).
