Forum to discuss S.C. Ghosts softball team

5:25 PM

Posted: Friday, October 27, 2006
Anyone interested in learning more about the Sioux City Ghosts softball team and a documentary project featuring the team is invited to attend an informational meeting at 2 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Sioux City Public Museum, 2901 Jackson St.

"We plan to have Frankie Williams and hopefully another Ghost player, Rudy Lee, present to talk about the Ghosts," Thomas Ritchie, director of the documentary, said. "We are personally inviting others who may have stories to share."

During the Depression era, the Negro or Colored Ghosts were a fast-pitch softball team comprised of African-American players from Sioux City. They later were renamed the Sioux City Ghosts. The team became well known during tours of the Midwest, West Coast, Mexico and Canada.

The purpose of the documentary is to tell the story of the team detailing their history and significance. Many of the team's artifacts now are at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

Anyone who wants to find out more about the team, to share their stories on camera or to find out how they can contribute to the documentary project, should attend.

For more information, call Ritchie at (712) 898-8121 or go to www.siouxcityghosts.com.
