Christians have as much right to political views as anyone

Posted: Friday, November 17, 2006
KINGSLEY, Iowa -- Those who say there is no room for religion in politics are simply trying to silence and shame Christians from espousing their views. It's a clever tactic that's as old as dirt.

What should we derive from this nonsense--- that there is only room for secular/atheist views and not religious views in politics? This is absurd. Human beings cannot separate their faith and worldview from politics, for what defines and motivates a person in all of their decisions if not their worldview? Were it not for "religious" Christians, slavery would not have been abolished by our government and age-old social services to help those in poverty would never have been established. Everyone (religious or otherwise) has the right (and duty) to influence politics.

The atheist left is certainly motivated and yet no one orders them to subside from political activity. Christians, don't listen to those who want to silence you. They want to block your values and advance their own. Make no mistake - there is a culture war in America and the left sees their stronghold slipping away. They will do anything they can to weaken or demonize those who hold traditional values.

I have news for all of the secular readers out there - we are not going to let you kick us out of this political sandbox. We have just as much right to be here as anyone. -- Travis Fletcher

" The way I understood it when we were studing the constitution in High School is that the founding fathers put in a seperation of Church and State so there would be no church of the country - such as you find in England and Denmark, to name two, where there is a church that is of that country. This seperation is to give all people the right to their own religious beliefs. To say that there is no place in our government to have any religious ceremonies, prayers, or symbols is not right. As long as we are not "forced" to attend a certain denomination then our rights have prevailed. I say that all people, regardles of how and where they worship (if they do) should be tolerant of all other beliefs, and to live their lives as best they can. If I wish someone a Merry Christmas and they return with a "Happy Holidays" or a "Happy Hannikah" then all the better. Maybe we all need to grow up and stop looking at the insignificant things and start enjoying how all differences make this world so beautiful. "

" No I am a historian , who studied alot of the lies perpetrated by many and are still allowed to be taught in school such as the origin of the constitution which was plagarized from the Iroquois Nation for one. Hypocrisy abounds for example Poor George Washington didn't cut the cherry tree down.. Thomas Jefferson fathered alot of children through adultery and now Satan Clause has taken alot of meaning from christmas which by the way there is some debate as to the true birthdate of christ which is said to be in the spring. He was dark-skinned not blond and blue-eyed also. Christians also practiced germ war-fare by the way of small-pox and according to the Catholics, the Natives didn't have a soul until much later. Onward Christian Soldiers and these are my words before God! "

" Did you change any of the words or was that copied directly from Bill O'Reilly's new book "Culture Warrior?" Think for yourself. "

" Interesting how christians broke every commandment when they hit the plymouth rock, even the four legged no longer exist in places like elk pt. How come they find it hard to accept the views of others religion and persecute one another..go to church on sunday persecute on monday. And even our president isn't saying "bring it on" anymore. In the end only kindness matters as our time is not certain so count your neighbors as friends. "

" ...Now to be fair, because the "hate posts" are ganna fly, it is unlikely when the abortion option comes up that this woman will still be in as physically dramatic shape as I have suggested. The important point is she would have or could have been at one time. To suggest that a women carry a fetus to term after a rape like this or ANY is INHUMANE of any one to suggest! It disturbs me further, the organizations that promote this position are the very same organizations that claim moral superiority. A fetus does NOT have the same rights as a fully developed person. End of debate. I still feel strongly that abortion should not be allowed past the 3rd or 4th month with the exception of the above, incest, and danger to the mother. If you cant make your mind up before then it needs to be made up for you...and now I return you to your regularly scheduled topic. ;) "
