Go Red For Women chair named

Posted: Wednesday, December 13, 2006
Beth Noel will chair the third annual Go Red For Women luncheon from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 2 at the Marina Inn.

Noel's appointment as chair of the luncheon was announced Tuesday by Linda Wadedo Jochims, Siouxland regional director of the American Heart Association.

Noel was graduated from Augustana College at Rock Island, Ill., with a bachelor’s degree in biology in 1980. She worked in basic science research at the University of Iowa and the University of Wisconsin in immunology and bacteriology, respectively, from 1980 through 1990.

"I have always had an interest in science and medicine as my father was a physician," said Noel.

She became personally interested in women and heart disease after her mother underwent heart valve replacement surgery and subsequent long recovery.

Noel serves on the Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools Board and volunteers at Sacred Heart. She is a member of the Portfolio Book Club and local wine club.

Noel and her husband, Dr Stephen Noel, have three sons, ages 11, 13 and 15. The couple moved to Sioux City in January 1992.

Dr Joann Owens Nausler will be the keynote speaker for the March 2 luncheon and Jill Avery will provide the entertainment.

Owens Nausler received her bachelor's degree from Chadron (Neb.) State College, master's in physical education and doctorate in education at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. She is an active volunteer for the American Heart Association, Lincoln Public Schools and University of Nebraska Women’s Heart Health.

Owens Nausler and husband, Red, have four children and raise Texas longhorn cattle, quarter and paint horses, llamas and goats on Big E-Nuff Ranch at Lincoln. The couple have four children.

Wadedo Jochims noted the March 2 luncheon will feature a silent auction with critical information on women and heart disease and stroke as well as an American Heart Association red dress pin.
