Coyotes end non-conference slate with rout

VERMILLION, S.D. -- The University of South Dakota men's basketball team cruised past Jamestown College 82-54 Sunday at the DakotaDome, winning its seventh straight game while finishing up its non-conference schedule.
The Coyotes, now 11-4, streaked to a 35-8 lead in the first 11 minutes and never looked back. Jamestown is now 10-5 overall.
Mitch Begeman, a sophomore guard from Sioux Falls O'Gorman, came off the bench to toss in a career-high 17 points and lead all scorers. Sophomore Jesse Becker finished with 14 points, Eric Hall 11 and Steve Smith 10. Both Begeman and Becker nailed four 3-point shots.
Dylan Grimsley, a sophomore from Sioux City Bishop Heelan High, pulled down a game-high eight rebounds. Tyler Cain added seven rebounds, four steals and four blocked shots.
Jordan Olson led Jamestown with 11 points, five rebounds and four assists.
South Dakota shot 53.7 percent (29 of 54) from the field while Jamestown was 20 for 58 for 34.5 percent. The Coyotes held a 42-28 rebounding advantage, made 13 of 24 3-point shots, had a season-high 16 steals and tied a season high with seven blocked shots.
The Coyotes open North Central Conference play Saturday, hosting Augustana at 8 o'clock.
