NLNAC to visit Briar Cliff for MSN accreditation

Posted: Friday, January 19, 2007
The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission will be at Briar Cliff University Jan. 30 through Feb. 1 to conduct an initial accreditation review of the BCU master of science in nursing program.

NLNAC team chair Dr. Geraldine Allen, associate professor of nursing and director of the MSN program at Troy (Ala.) University, and Dr. Josephine McCaskill, professor of nursing at Governors State University in University Park, Ill., will attend several classes and clinical settings during their three-day visit to Briar Cliff.

Allen and McCaskill also will meet with faculty, students, agency representatives and administrators. The community is invited to meet with the NLNAC during a public meeting from 5 to 6 p.m. Jan. 31 in Room 251 of Heelan Hall on the Briar Cliff campus.

Accreditation is a voluntary, peer-review process that demonstrates to current and prospective students as well as the public that Briar Cliff's nursing program meets or exceeds standards for educational quality.

NLNAC accreditation representatives recognize exacting standards, honor high aspiration and achievement, and require that those involved with the program help create an environment that promotes learning, collaboration, openness and mutual respect.

For more information about the Briar Cliff University master of science in nursing program or the NLNAC accreditation visit, call the BCU Department of Nursing at (712) 279-1640.
