Lindgren named UNI's most valuable

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Senior wide receiver James Lindgren, cornerback Dre Dokes and kicker Brian Wingert were named the most valuable players at the University of Northern Iowa's football banquet here Sunday night.
Lindgren, a graduate of Odebolt-Arthur High School, was named the most valuable Panther offensive player. He led the 2006 team with five touchdown receptions while catching 32 passes for a 374 yards.
The Sioux City Journal's Siouxland Male Athlete of the Year as a senior at Odebolt-Arthur was also named to the NCAA Division I-AA academic all-district team in 2006 and was a Gateway Conference all-academic pick for three seasons.
He had at least one pass reception in each of UNI's 11 games, snaring seven aerials for 73 yards against Iowa State and, in addition to his five TD catches, also tallied on an 11-yard run against Indiana State.
Dokes was named UNI's defensive most valuable player and Wingert earned the special teams award.
Dokes, a first-team All-American, led Division I-AA with seven interceptions.
Wingert finished his career as UNI's all-time leading scorer with 331 points and established a school record with 60 field goals, including a 56-yarder against North Dakota State last fall.
