Indian Education Committee plans election today

Sioux City Indian Education Committee Inc. will conduct a Johnson O'Malley Program Indian Education Committee election meeting at 5:30 p.m. today at the First Nations Outreach Center, 804 W. Seventh St. Three committee vacancies need to be filled.

The Johnson O'Malley parent committee is composed of parents of eligible Indian students who are age 3 through 12th grade and are one-quarter Indian and recognized by the secretary of the Interior as being eligible for Bureau of Indian Affairs services.

The Indian Education Committee participates fully in the planning, development, implementation and evaluations of all Johnson O'Malley programs which meet the unique educational and cultural needs of eligible Indian children.

Cultural enrichment activities and a peer tutoring program are among programs offered by the Indian Education Committee at Sanford Center.
