Posted: Thursday, March 15, 2007
LINCOLN -- Freshman leftfielder Joe Wendte went 4 for 4 while leading Wayne State's baseball team to a 6-4 win over Nebraska-Kearney Wednesday afternoon at Haymarket Park.

Wendte, a former Sioux City Bishop Heelan High School baseball standout, entered the game hitting .364 for Coach John Manganaro's Wildcats. Wendte, who singled three times, snapped a 4-4 tie in the fourth inning when he scored on a UNK throwing error.

Wendte gave Wayne State (7-5) an insurance run in the fifth inning when he doubled to send Ian DeLaet homeward for a 6-4 lead.

Alex Koch added a double for the Wildcats.

Winning pitcher Connor Bramlet (2-0) worked four innings of hitless releif. Adam McGuire pitched the ninth inning, allowing two hits while recording his first save of the season.

Wayne State will play at Midland Lutheran in a nine-inning game that will start at 5 p.m. Friday in Fremont, Neb. Sunday, the Wildcats will host Augustana in the home opener, starting at noon at the Pete Chapman Baseball Complex.
