Teacher placed on administrative leave

A South Sioux City middle school teacher has been placed on administrative leave after he was arrested for soliciting a prostitute Wednesday.

John Singer, 37, Dakota City, also has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the girls soccer team at South Sioux City Middle School, said Steve Rector, superintendent of the South Sioux City Community School District.

The Sioux City Police Department arrested Singer Wednesday. Rector found out about the arrest Friday and spoke with Singer over the weekend. Singer was placed on leave Monday.

"Our concern is with the kids," Rector said. "We want to make sure the kids make it through this difficult situation."

The school will be offering counseling for students affected by the incident, Rector said, adding he didn't know how long Singer had been employed at the school.

In the meantime, other coaches within the school have been slated to fill Singer's spot as head coach. A decision on when the leave would be lifted or if Singer would return as a coach is set to be made after officials have further discussions with Singer later this week, Rector said.

" I disagree with a comment about ex. and managers are held to the same standerd as teachers. If a manager at IBP got busted it probably not even make the paper or the news. and this person would also probably not lose their job either. What ever a teacher is doing on their own time and money when they are not working is there bussniss. "

" No one should pass judgement on someone before they have been found guilty! There are two sides to every story, and so far only the media has done the telling! Everybody in their lifetime has made bad decisions, but most of are lucky that our sins didn't reach the 6 o'clock news.....Think about that for a second.... "

" i think that Mr.Singer should pay for what he did.Why would we give him a second chance if he has a beautiful wife and four wonderful children and he goes off and doing that kind of stuff? he doesn't deserve a second a chance. Yes, we all think it is wrong that they have it all over the news but we just think that because he was a teacher in SSC, what if it would of happened somewhere else we wouldn't care. Mr. Singer does not deserve a second chance he has humiliated his own family and the SSC community. "

" I personal know this man and his family wonderful wife,4 children:Thats the sad part his wife and kids have to listen to the teasing etc.I think it is a shame that the Sioux City Journal just goes out looking for a "Story" to make a buck Why Dont they ever consider the "innocent victims" who have to be rediculed because of there story:Also as other ones stated it was probably a sting and Why HAVENT we heard about ANYONE else soliciting a prostitute:I understand it is not right but after losing your Wife,Family, and Job dont you think he got punished enough without having to publicize it???????Anything for that dollar Huh "

" I understand that this man should not have been trying to pick up a hooker in the first place and I am not justifying his behavior but you have to ask, do they list everyone busted for solicitation? Do they put all the men that get busted for this on the news and in the paper? This man's life has been destroyed and I can't help but feel sorry for him. And I know, parents will say "Oh, the kids, the kids!!" HE WASN'T DOING ANYTHING TO YOUR KIDS. I don't know, I just feel bad for the guy. "
