Rain postpones
area athletic events
Saturday's rain led to several postponments of area collegiate athletic events.
Morningside College's home men's and women's tennis duals against Dordt were postponed. No make-up date has been set.
Buena Vista's men's tennis dual at Simpson College was postponed. A make-up date has not been determined.
Rain forced the cancellation of the Nebraska-Omaha softball tournament and South Dakota was among the participating teams. USD has picked up a non-conference doubleheader against North Dakota that will start at 8 o'clock this morning at the DakotaDome.
Buena Vista's baseball home doubleheader against Simpson was postponed due to wet field conditions and will be made up this afternoon, starting at 2 o'clock.
Buena Vista's home softball doubleheader against Simpson was also postponed and will be made up this afternoon, starting at 2 o'clock.
The second round of the Augustana men's golf tournament in Sioux Falls was rained out so Friday's first round was final. South Dakota outscored Morningside 299-301 for the title.

team rolls past Augustana
SIOUX FALLS -- South Dakota's women's tennis team hiked their season record to 13-5 with a 7-2 North Central Conference win over Augustana Friday.
South Dakota, now 1-1 in the NCC, got singles and doubles wins from Maggie Peters, Amanda Barton and Rachel Kludt. Michelle Hogan won her second straight 6-0, 6-0 decision, blanking Brie Groves at sixth singles.
The Coyotes will play two matches today. Upper Iowa will face the Coyotes at 9 a.m. in Mankato, Minn., then MSU Moorhead will be USD's opponent at 12:30 p.m. in St. Peter, Minn.

SIOUX FALLS -- Rain on Saturday at Prairie Green Golf Course caused the cancellation of the remainder of the Augustana Spring Invitational.
South Dakota's women were in third place with a 318 on Friday. Amanda Young led the Coyotes and was tied for second with a 75.
Karrie Plate (78), Amanda Luitjens (81), Kendra Neugebauer (84) and Brooke Bonte (86) also played for USD. Teammates Candice Bonrud and Andrea Petersen played individually, shooting respective rounds of 85 and 95.
Nebraska-Omaha outscored Upper Iowa 308-311 for the title in the nine-team meet.

team tops Iowa Lakes
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa -- Iowa Western Community College's softball team swept Iowa Lakes Community College 5-3 and 3-1 Friday.
A quick change Friday morning sent ILCC from Trenton, Mo., to Council Bluffs as rain in Missouri canceled a game against North Central. Quick scheduling produced the Friday twin bill against IWCC.
Freshman Jill Timmer hit a three-run home run in the first game for Iowa Lakes. Aly Bowers suffered the pitching loss.
Ashley Souphimdara was 2 for 4 for ILCC (18-6) in the second game. Alicia Bata hit an RBI single in the seventh inning for the Lakers while Amanda Nelson (6-1) was the losing pitcher.
