Two join Journal staff

Stephanie Fielder and Travis Coleman are new members of the Journal news staff.

Fielder serves as a copy editor and Coleman as night police reporter. Their appointments to the news staff were announced by Journal editor Larry Myhre.

Fielder is an Omaha native and 2002 graduate of Millard South High School. She was graduated cum laude from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in December 2006 with a bachelor of science degree in journalism, news editorial.

While in college, Fielder was features editor for the student newspaper, the Antelope, and was a member of the Students in Mass Media Honorary Society. She also was employed by the Kearney Hub newspaper for almost two years as a photojournalist while attending college.

Fielder's parents, Mike and Jeanne Fielder, live in Gretna, Neb. Her sister, Sadie, is attending the University of Nebraska at Kearney.

Coleman is a Sioux City native and attended schools in Sioux City graduating from West High School in 2002. He attended Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kan., from 2002 until 2004, graduating with an associate's degree. He then transferred to the University of South Dakota at Vermillion where he is completing his bachelor's degree in English.

While at USD, Coleman has served as opinion editor for the student newspaper, the Volante. He was editor of the student newspaper at Haskell, the Indian Leader. He also is a graduate of the American Indian Journalism Institute in Vermillion, a summer program at USD.

Coleman and his wife, Carla, are the parents of a one-year-old son, Oberon. The couple reside in Sioux City. He is the son of Jenny and Roger Whitebeaver of Sioux City and has three sisters and a brother.

" maybe one of them can get the Indian news right and break down some of the slanted , wrong impressions..before we all go to heaven and have to get it right...god is red. "
