Chargers get second seed in GPAC tourney

HASTINGS, Neb. -- Sioux Falls College earned the top seed in this week's Great Plains Athletic Conference baseball post-season tournament.

The Cougars tied with Briar Cliff at 17-7 for the conference crown, but Sioux Falls won the tiebreaker over the Chargers and thus the top seed. Sioux Falls also earns one of the three GPAC automatic bids into next week's NAIA Region III tournament at Lewis and Clark Park.

Briar Cliff (24-16) will open play on Thursday against seventh-seeded Mount Marty (25-15) at 9 a.m.

Morningside also qualified and earned the sixth seed where the Mustangs (22-21) will face third-seeded Northwestern (31-13) at Noon.

GPAC Tournament

Day one -- Thursday

Game 1 — (1) Sioux Falls (21-16, 17-7) vs. (8) Nebraska Wesleyan (19-18, 11-13), 9 a.m.

Game 2 — (2) Briar Cliff (24-16, 17-7) vs. (7) Mount Marty (25-15, 11-11), 9 a.m.

Game 3 — (4) Dakota Wesleyan (24-18, 14-8) vs. (5) Midland Lutheran (20-24, 13-9), Noon

Game 4 — (3) Northwestern (31-13, 14-8) vs. (6) Morningside (22-21, 12-10), Noon

Game 5 — Winner game 2 vs. winner game 4, 4:00

Game 6 — Winner game 1 vs. winner game 3, 4:00

Game 7 — Loser game 2 vs. Loser game 4, 7:00

Game 8 — Loser game 1 vs. Loser game 3, 7:00

Day two -- Friday

Game 9 — Winner game 5 vs. winner game 6, 9 a.m.

Game 10 — Loser game 6 vs. winner game 7, 11 a.m.

Game 11 — Loser game 5 vs. winner game 8, 12:30

Game 12 — Loser game 8 vs. winner game 10, 4:00**

Game 13 — Winner game 8 vs. winner game 11, 7:30**

**Pairings may need to be adjusted to avoid previously matched opponents

Day three -- Saturday

Game 14 — winner game 12 vs. winner game 13, 11 a.m.
