WIT names Teacher of the Year

Posted: Friday, May 18, 2007
Don Dorn, police science instructor at Western Iowa Tech Community College, has been named recipient of the college's 2007 Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award.

The award was presented to Dorn at WIT's spring commencement exercises Thursday evening by Corrie Newton, president of the college's Student Senate.

The award honors a faculty member who has demonstrated exemplary commitment to four guiding principles: student learning, quality instruction, lifelong learning and professional integrity. Nominations for the award are made by students of the college. Final selection is made by a committee of students and faculty.

Dorn, who joined WIT as a full-time instructor in 2002, was recognized for his mastery of his subject, interest in students' success, dedication and approachability. Dorn was also recognized for his commitment to the continuous quality improvement process.

Dorn, a resident of Sioux City, earned his associate degree in police science from WIT and his bachelor's degree from Bellevue University. He is working on his master's degree in leadership from Bellevue University.
