Akron teen killed in collision

ADAVILLE, Iowa -- An Akron, Iowa, teen died Saturday after his car was hit by the loader arms of an oncoming tractor west of Adaville.
Tyler Edward Dawdy, 18, was driving west on County Road C-38 and crested the hill approaching Fir Avenue when his Oldsmobile Cutlass was struck on the left side by the arms of the tractor, the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office reported.
Gerald Bernard Dieterman, 83, was driving the tractor east on C-38. He didn't see Dawdy's car approaching and attempted to turn left onto Fir Avenue, the sheriff's office reported. The collision occurred at 2:32 p.m.
Merrill Ambulance took Dawdy to an open area, where they were met by the Mercy Air Care helicopter. Dawdy was taken by helicopter to Mercy Medical Center -- Sioux City, where he was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries. Dieterman was not injured.
The investigation is ongoing, the sheriff's office reported.
