Edge to hire 125 new workers fast

Edge Teleservices, Inc. is looking to add 125 workers to its offices in North Sioux City and Fremont, Neb.
Mark O'Connell, senior site manager in North Sioux City, said at least 115 of those jobs will be in North Sioux City. At least 10, and as many as 30, positions will be added in Fremont. Hiring and training will begin immediately.
The new positions pay $9 an hour, with incentives and bonuses offered after a probationary period. Employees receive health and dental insurance as well as paid sick days and vacation. They have the option of buying insurance for their family. The call center is open Monday through Friday, with the latest shift ending at 6:30 p.m, O'Connell said.
The training will be staggered, but he wants to start training some people this week. He said that, because of the current tight labor market, the company will consider part-time workers. "We're willing to try, especially to accommodate students who don't want full-time, or people who have another job," he said. Currently all of its employees in North Sioux City are full-time.
"What's unique is it's all business to business," O'Connell said. "You don't do any residential calling. It's all existing customers; you don't do any cold calls."
The center serves several major clients, including Secure Horizons, which just merged with United Health Care. The bulk of the new employees will work for that account, marketing their mail order pharmacy to companies already using the companies' insurance.
Another major client is AT&T, which uses Edge to serve its Midwest and California markets. "We do a good job for them," O'Connell said. "We consistently outperform any of the other vendors that they use."
Edge Teleservices is a 22-year-old company based in Oak Lawn, Ill. It opened its North Sioux City facility in 2003, leasing a former Gateway Inc. building. O'Connell said the company has recently purchased that building, at 215 Freedom Drive, and has plenty of room for the additional agents.
About 150 people work at the site now, and another 150 are employed at the Fremont office. Edge President Tom Wogan, said the company looks forward to developing as many as 500 full- and part-time positions there. He credited help from South Dakota business development programs for the company's growth there.
Applicants interested in the new positions may call for appointments at (605) 232-6320, or may apply online at www.edgeteleservices.com/html/careers.html.
