Woodbury County Fair judging results

Results of judging at the Woodbury County Fair are listed below:

 

Home Improvement

 

          Home Improvement exhibits include many projects for the home, such as design, furniture, accessories, fabrics, and maintenance. The following exhibitors will be advancing to the Iowa State Fair:

                    Megan Meister, Kingsley

                    Kayleigh Barrett, Sioux City

                    Michael Wright, Moville

                    Matthew Wright, Moville

                    Andrea Bernard, Correctionville

 

          Alternate State Fair ribbons were awarded to Nathan Utesch, Jared Schramm, Jessica Wade, Carter Swanger and James Wright.

 

4-H Horticulture Fair Results

          Horticulture entries included garden samples of fruits, nuts, and vegetables, houseplants, and cut flower specimens.

          The county champion was a tie between Billy VanEldik of Bronson with cut flowers, Mark Putze of Moville with a variety garden display, Andy Kollbaum of Bronson with vegetables, Jedidiah McCoy of Climbing Hill with houseplants and Dylan Mulfinger of Climbing Hill with fruit. 

The reserve champion was a tie between Kayleigh Barrett of Sioux City with cut flowers, Matt Nelson of Moville with a variety garden display, and Jedidiah McCoy of Climbing Hill with vegetables.  

         

Child Development

Child development exhibits involve projects or programs such as games and toys, original stories, babysitting, toy safety, guidance and discipline, or special needs children.

 

Child Development exhibitors advancing to the Iowa State Fair are: Dana Sly and Matt Lord, both of Sioux City. Alternate State Fair Child Development winners are Kayleigh Barrett and Megan Logan, both of Sioux City

 

 Expressive Art (Photography)

        

         The 4-H Photography fair classes include single photo, photo series, slides, and photography exhibits. Exhibits advancing to the Iowa State Fair are:

                    Casey Reyman, Cushing

                    Randi Reeder, Lawton

                    Kelsey Utesch, Correctionville

                    Sam Little, Climbing Hill

                    Cassidy Corey, Salix

                    Josh Thomas, Climbing Hill

                    Natasha Lewis, Cushing

 

          Alternate State Fair exhibitors in Photography are Natalie Lord, Randi Reeder (2), Calvin Smith, Nathan Utesch, Casey Reyman and Emilee Droegmiller.

 

Expressive Art (Visual Arts)

 

          4-H Expressive Arts exhibits in the Visual Arts Department include original art in many media, including paper, fiber, clay, leather, textiles, wood, glass and plastic, metal, chalk, carbon and pigment, and nature materials.  Design and media exploration are also exhibited by 4-H'ers at the Woodbury County Fair.

          In the Visual Art Department, winners advancing to the Iowa State Fair are:

Original Art, Lauren Eckert, Sioux City; Design and/or Technique Exploration, Natalie Fylstra, Salix;

Joshua Thomas, Hornick; Amy Widman, Sergeant Bluff.

                    Alternate State Fair Visual Arts exhibitors are Landon Wright, Brittany Weber, Jessica Wade and Amanda Wyant

 

 {M3Food and Nutrition

 

          Food and Nutrition exhibits include food preparation and safety, consumer management, nutrition and wellness and other food and nutrition ideas. Food and Nutrition exhibitors advancing to the Iowa State Fair are:

                    Mary Burroughs (2), Sioux City

                    Tony Hansen, Hornick

                    Dana Sly, Sioux City

                    Andrea Bernard, Correctionville

                    Megan Logan, Sioux City

 

          Alternate State Fair Food and Nutrition winners were Megan Meister, Nicole Morgan, Tyler Hansen, Jared Schramm, Megan Logan and Natalie Lord.

 

          Issues Department Fair Results

          The Issues Department within the Woodbury County Youth and 4-H program is any exhibit by an individual or group that is an outgrowth from an Extension 4-H education experience. Exhibits might include, but are not limited to, topics such as water quality, erosion, pollution, radon, substance abuse, teen pregnancy, animal welfare/rights, etc.

          The exhibit evaluated at the fair is an outgrowth from an educational experience selected to represent Woodbury County at the Iowa State Fair will be Nicole Morgan of Marcus. 

Personal Development

            Six exhibits were selected to advance to the Iowa State Fair in the Personal Development Department.  4-H Personal Development classes include exhibits on camping, citizenship, communication, health, leadership, music, safety, and self-determined projects or programs.  The class and winners are as follows:

            Alternate State Fair Personal Development winners are: Dana Sly, Jessica Wade (2), Lauren Eckert and Kaitlyn Brady.

                       The Poster Art winner was Shea Topf of Sloan.  The alternate was Joshua Thomas of Climbing Hill.

            The 4-H Historical/Family Heritage class is designed to help participants gain a greater appreciation for and to focus on 4-H history and family heritage. Emphasis is also provided for an intergenerational focus. Participants are encouraged to learn and share more about the history of 4-H in Iowa and/or their family heritage. This class is designed and intended to provide an opportunity for 4-H’ers and adults to form a team in planning and developing an exhibit to share together learning related to 4-H history and heritage. The winners who will advance to the State Fair are Megan Meister of Kingsley and Drew Schramm of Moville. 

            The alternates chosen are Nathaniel Morgan of Marcus and Jessica Ross of Lawton.

            4-H Consumer and Management exhibit should demonstrate use of the decision-making model as described in project materials. The process of learning about you as a consumer is the most important part of the project. The winner was Kaitlyn Brady of Sioux City. The merit winner was Braden Christensen.

Textiles and Clothing

 

            Textiles and clothing exhibits include projects on clothing design and creative sewing, choosing clothes and learning about fabrics, clothing safety and care, and personal pointers. Textile and clothing exhibitors advancing to the Iowa State Fair are:

            Mary Burroughs (2), Sioux City

            Katelyn Susie, Kingsley

            Samantha Swanger, Sioux City

                       

            Alternate fair ribbons in the textile and clothing area were awarded to Anna Duncan, Shelby Perez, Megan Logan and Zoe Linn.

 

            Science, Mechanical & Engineering Fair Results

 

          4-H exhibits within the Science, Mechanical and Engineering Department include: aerospace, automotive, computer, energy, electric/electronics, small engines, tractor, welding, woodworking, science & technology and other science, mechanical and engineering ideas.

          Three exhibits were selected to advance to the Iowa State Fair:

          Alternate State Fair winners include Josh Powell, Joshua Thomas and Jake Parker.
