Overall Showmanship Contest

Travis Hazard of Anthon was selected champion Overall Showperson. This competition brought together the top showmen from Beef, Sheep, Swine and Horse species. During the competition, contestants were required to show each of the other species, beside their own, in a round robin rotation system. The contestants were required to answer questions about each species.

4-H/FFA Livestock Judging Contest Results

Seventy-five 4-H and FFA young people and adults took part in the Woodbury County Livestock Judging contest testing their judging skills in classes of beef, sheep and swine. First place team honors went to the Kingsley-Pierson FFA team from Kingsley with a total of 766 points out of a possible 900 points. Maple Valley FFA was second with 758 points and Westwood FFA was third with a score of 755 points.

Fashion Revue

Top winners at the Fashion Revue were Megan Logan of Sioux City and Andrea Bernard of Anthon. Megan constructed and modeled a black knit dress. Andrea constructed and modeled a gray fleece vest and yellow cotton shorts. Megan and Andrea will represent Woodbury County at the State Clothing Event in Des Moines.

Merit winners in the junior and intermediate division were Megan Meister, Zoe Linn, Megan Glover and Sophia Lord.

4-H Pie Auction Results

Proceeds of the Woodbury County Fair 4-H Pie Auction netted $4,660 for the Woodbury County 4-H Fund. This fund provides scholarships for 4-H camps and trips, helps to buy project and educational materials and is used for 4-H promotions and recruitment.

The Grand Champion pie was baked by Braden Christensen of the Pioneer Valley 4-H Club. The Reserve Champion pie was baked by Dana Sly of the Good Luck Clovers 4-H Club.

The pies receiving special awards were baked by Calvin Smith of the Triple “S” Hawkeyes 4-H Club and Jesse Bogenrief of the Rock-Kee-Union 4-H Club.

Pride of Iowa is a communication opportunity to improve communication skills, promote Iowa products and promote proper uses of small equipment. The class is open to 4-H’ers who have completed grades four through nine. No speaking is done by the 4-H’er as they do their presentation.

Share-the-Fun: 4-H Share-the-Fun entries include skits, songs, stunts, short plays, dances and other creative activities designed to entertain the audience. Working Exhibits: 4-H Working Exhibits provide an opportunity for members to communicate and interact with an audience in an informal way and often involve the audience in some doing, feeling, tasting, smelling or judging. Selected for State Fair were Champions Megan Logan, Katie Heath and Amanda Heath, Kayleigh Barrett, Kaitlynn Brady and Dana Sly, and Anne Reiva and Kelsey Orr, all of Sioux City. Advancing to Clay County Fair are Bailey Kennedy, Katlyn Mellies and Kelsey Sands, all of Moville

Educational Presentations: 4-H Educational Presentations are given by 4-H’ers sharing their life experiences and teaching to others. Champions are Natalie Lord, Dana Sly and Mary Burroughs, all of Sioux City, and Nicole Morgan and Nathaniel Morgan, both of Marcus. Advancing to Clay County Fair is Sophia Lord, Sioux City; Alternate, Josh Thomas, Hornick

Extemporaneous Speaking Exhibitors are given a choice of a topic and they must prepare a speech to support or defend this idea in 4-6 minutes. Selected to advance to the State Fair were Dylan Mulflinger of Hornick and Mary Burroughs of Sioux City.

The top score in the intermediate-senior division was earned by Kelsey Orr of the Good Luck Clovers. Second place winner was Shawn Nelson of Rock Branch Producers and third place winner was Lauren Eckert of Woodbury Westsiders. Other ribbon winners in the intermediate-senior division were fourth place, Mary McGhee, Anthon; fifth, Sydney Brady, Sioux City; sixth, Michaela Ramm, Sioux City; seventh, Alex Ralston, Moville; eighth, Cheyenne Brown, Ponca, Neb.; ninth, Amanda Wyant, Sioux City; 10th, Mary Burroughs, Sioux City

The top junior score was earned by Natalie Lord of Sioux City. Second through 10th place ribbons were awarded to the following juniors: second, McKenzie Oregon, Salix; fourth, Tanner Peterson, Danbury; fifth, Merrill Brady, Sioux City; sixth, Dani Tumpkin, Sioux City; seventh, Megan Heath, Sioux City; eighth, Kalli Weber, Mapleton; ninth, Anna Duncan, Anthon; 10th, Maria Lohr, Sioux City.

Top adult score was earned by Elaine Droegmiller of Cushing. Second through 10th placing ribbons were awarded to the following adults: second, Venita Wilcox; third, Kathy McGhee; fourth, Tabitha Lewis; fifth, JoAnn Donner; sixth, June Peterson; seventh, Steph Anderson; eighth, Dave Sly; ninth, Rita Washburn; 10th, Holly Peterson

Traveling trophy for the Intermediate-Senior Team with the top score was awarded to the Good Luck Clovers 4-H Club. For the Junior Team, the Anthon Advancers 4-H Club will hold the traveling trophy for the coming year.

Eighty-five 4-H'ers participated in the judging contest. Four classes were judged by juniors and four classes were judged by intermediate/senior members. There were 38 adults entered.
