ArtSplash's Friday Festival provides preview show

Posted: Wednesday, August 29, 2007
ArtSplash has planned a special Friday Festival for adults that includes food, music and an artisans preview show. Individuals attending will be able to enjoy a leisurely evening where they can browse and have the first opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind artwork, jewelry, sculpture, textiles and pottery.

"Saturday and Sunday have always had a child-centered focus with an emphasis placed on activities for family participation -- that will never change," said Cathy Perley, ArtSplash coordinator. "But over the years we've heard from adults who requested having their own time to enjoy ArtSplash, so we came up with the idea for our Friday Festival. Friday night is designed for adults to kick back, relax and shop while enjoying a cocktail buffet and listening to David Jones and his quartet."

Volunteers have been planning the Friday Festival with the help of sponsors. First American Bank has made a major investment as the main underwriter for the event. HyVee Stores, Kahill's Steak-Fish & Chophouse, L&L Distributing, Minerva's Restaurant and Bar, Outback Steakhouse and Red Robin Gourmet Burgers will provide an array of gourmet hors d'oeuvres along with a variety of beverages for the cocktail buffet. A Step in Thyme has designed special table decorations specifically for the event.

A highlight of the evening will be a silent auction featuring more than 80 original pieces donated by the participating ArtSplash artisans. A major piece included in the auction will be the official 2007 ArtSplash Commission Artwork designed by award-winning and nationally known father-daughter ceramicists, Bob and Cheryl Husby of Duluth, Minn. Designed specifically for ArtSplash, the pottery piece contains images representing ArtSplash and its activities.

Tickets for the Friday Festival are $20 and can be purchased in advance at the Sioux City Art Center or the evening of the event at the ArtSplash gate just inside the tunnel at Riverfront Park. The food and music will be at the Mildred Anderson Dance Pavilion.
