Posted: Wednesday, September 12, 2007
WAUSA, Neb. --Two buses, one from Sioux City that will stop at Ponca, Neb., and a second from Norfolk, Neb. that will stop at Jerry’s Hilltop, will make their way to the Wausa Smorgasbord Saturday, Oct. 27.

Stops on the way include lunch at the St. James (Neb.) Market Place, coffee, sweets and antiques at Sally’s Antiques and Sweets in Bloomfield, Neb., and a visit to the 1900 cowtown complete with wood sidewalks at Winnetoon, Neb.

The buses will stop at the What’s It Shop, a museum with interesting displays at Wausa, before arriving at the Wausa Smorgasbord, an event that dates back to the 1940s when the Methodist Church prepared the traditional meal to raise funds to buy an organ. The Smorgasbord will feature potato sausage, rolla pulsa, headcheese, Swedish meatballs and more.

Passengers on the Sioux City bus will eat at 5 and those on the Norfolk bus at 6. After the Smorgasbord, the buses will stop at the Wausa Locker where Swedish foods can be purchased.

The $55 cost includes the bus tour, lunch and the Smorgasbord. Deadline is Oct. 10. For more information, call Susan Bengston in Wausa at (402) 586-2156 or Sally’s Antiques and Sweets in Bloomfield at (402) 373-2423.

This tour is sponsored by Shannon Trail Promoters of northeast Nebraska. Another tour is being planned during Kolach Days in Verdigre, Neb June 7, 2008.
