Pitbull attack puts 6-year-old boy in hospital

A 6-year-old boy was attacked and bitten by three pitbulls Sunday morning in South Sioux City, suffering puncture wounds that resulted in hospitalization at Mercy Medical Center-Sioux City.

The owner faces misdemeanor charges, including three counts of keeping a dangerous animal and letting the animals roam at large.

South Sioux City Police Department Lt. Chuck Carson reported the boy was riding a bike out the entrance of Stanton Place trailer court at 11 a.m., when he was attacked by three dogs at 801 E. Ninth St.

"He had puncture wounds from the dog bites" in the leg area, and lacerations elsewhere, Carson said. He said the injuries were not life threatening, the boy was conversing as he left for the hospital. The boy's mother was on the scene, and "was concerned and worried about her son," Carson said.

The dogs' owner, Jonathon Peterson, of Lot 43 of the trailer court, was cited for the misdemeanors. The dogs were taken to South Sioux City Animal Control, where they will be held for 10 days.

" I believe there good pitbull's and bad pitbull's. I understand a pitbull that is not raised properly it would be aggressive and attack strangers. but why would it atttack its own family member like a child or toodler . That I don't understand.Any other breed of dog that is dangerous doesn't attacks its own family or owner. Why would pit do that. But you can't get rid of this breed because if they are good they make the best dogs. I think the pits that attack their owner they have some kind problem with their thinking I don't know.the person that owns the aggressive dog says I owned the dog sinc it was born and i raised it to not be violent but then why did it attack. I've seen good pitbulls they don't bite nd their not aggressive. "

" These dogs are not allowed in Europe, neither should they be in the U.S.They are definetly not lovely dogs, they are very dangerous to all humans, especially kids.I think human life is more worth than the life of one dog. "

" I am 18 years old and i have owned 3 pit bulls. They are wonderful dogs. Yes some can be agressive but not all of them are. And for the people that are 100% against pitbulls and feel that none should be owned arent being fair because you arent giving them an equal chance. i loved my pits and my pits loved people including my 4 yr old cousin who adored my dogs!!

So R.I.P for all the pitbulls killed out of fear and ignorance!!! "

" I dont not think pitbulls are bad dog, I think it depends on how they are raised. "
