Briar Cliff welcomes new faculty members

Briar Cliff University announces the addition of several new faculty, and new responsibilities for others.
Sean Burton joins Briar Cliff as an assistant professor of music and director of choral activities. Formerly, Burton served as choral and orchestra director at Weston High School, in Connecticut, artistic director of the Boston Orpheus Ensemble, music director of the Boston University Choral Society, and chorus master of Connecticut Concert Opera.
Burton holds a bachelor of music degree in music education from The Hartt School n University of Hartford, Conn.; and a master of music degree in conducting from Boston University. He is currently completing requirements for the doctor of musical arts degree in choral conducting at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Burton is a published arranger, editor and scholar and is conductor of the internationally acclaimed Nebraska Children's Chorus Bel Canto.
Lisa Dotterweich joins Briar Cliff as an instructor of political science. Previously, Dotterweich taught at Kent State University, Kent, Ohio, and at Mount Union College, Alliance, Ohio.
She holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Walsh University, North Canton, Ohio, and a master's degree in political science from Kent State. Currently, Dotterweich is completing a doctorate degree in political science from Kent State. She is a member of the American Political Science Association, the Midwest Political Science Association and the Junior League of Sioux City.
Marilyn Eastman assumes a new role at Briar Cliff as an instructor of business, after serving as an adjunct professor of business for three years. Also at Briar Cliff, Eastman is the faculty advisor for Briar Cliff's Students in Free Enterprise team. Previously, she was an adjunct professor at Morningside College. She also served as a marketing manager for Procter and Gamble in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Eastman holds a bachelor's degree in English, history and psychology from the University of South Dakota, and a master's in business administration from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. She volunteers at Sacred Heart Church, Sacred Heart School and serves on the board of Girls Inc. in Sioux City.
Theresa Engle joins Briar Cliff as an instructor of education. Engle comes to Briar Cliff with extensive teaching experience in Whiting, Iowa, and throughout Siouxland.
A Sioux City native, Engle holds bachelor's and master’s degrees in elementary education from Morningside College. She is involved in the Sioux City Education Association.
Nic Nelson joins Briar Cliff as an instructor in health, physical education and recreation and assistant coach in the university's men's basketball program. Previously, Nelson served as assistant men's basketball coach at Central College, Pella, Iowa.
Nelson holds a bachelor's degree in history and education from Morningside College, and a master's degree in health science from Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kan. Nelson is a member of the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
Ynes Oggel joins Briar Cliff as a professor of Spanish. Oggel, who comes to Briar Cliff with more than 25 years of teaching experience, holds a bachelor's degree in Spanish from Grand Valley State University, Allendale, Mich.; a master's degree in Spanish from Michigan State University, in Lansing; and a doctorate in Spanish and education from Michigan State University. Oggel served as a board member for the Crittenton Center, Boys and Girls Home and Family Services, Sioux City Art Center, Sioux City Symphony Board and United Way of Siouxland. She is presently serving as board president for Mercy Medical Center.
