DECORAH, Iowa -- Tyler Sherden rushed for a school-record 269 yards while leading Luther to a 25-22 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football win over Buena Vista Saturday at Carlson Stadium.
Sherden, who scored on a two-yard run in the first quarter, broke the old mark of 263 yards set by Brad Hustad in 1957 against Upper Iowa. Sherden entered the game averaging 112.8 yards rushing and hiked his season touchdown total to seven.
Buena Vista (2-4, 1-4 IIAC) scored the game's next two touchdowns, both in the second quarter. Then, the Beavers took a 14-8 lead on Cody Donscheski's five-yard touchdown run.
Luther (3-3, 3-2) got a 33-yard field goal from Tyler Pease 22 seconds before halftime, then outscored the Beavers 14-0 in the third quarter. Marcus Hendrickson's 49-yard interception return with three seconds left in the frame gave the Norse a 25-14 lead.
