The number of Republican presidential candidates who may attend a nationally televised forum held in Sioux City on Oct. 25 is dwindling.
The forum slated for the downtown Orpheum Theatre had been slow to attract candidates, with only three GOP officeseekers planning to attend as of a few days ago. But with one of those three, Sam Brownback, expected to pull entirely out of the presidential race Friday, now only Mike Huckabee and John McCain are confirmed.
Divided We Fail forum organizers had launched a statewide push to get the commitments of Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson and Mitt Romney, the top polling Republicans.
A Romney spokesman said this morning the former Massachusetts governor would not attend, and a spokesman for GOP candidate Tom Tancredo said he would not take part in the forum.
