Morningside dominates all-GPAC women's soccer

To the victor belong the spoils.

Morningside's regular season championship team dominates the 2007 All-Great Plains Athletic Conference women's soccer team.

Sophomore forward Maggie Kukuk, Morningside's career assist leader with 31, was named player of the year, while teammate Maureen Vandenbroucke was selected defensive player of the year and Tom Maxon tabbed coach of the year.

Along with Kukuk and Vandenbroucke, a junior from Gretna, Neb., Morningside goalkeeper Kelly Berst, a senior from Lincoln, Neb., also earned first-team plaudits.

Briar Cliff sophomore midfielder Lisa Maxey was also named to the first team for the second straight year after leading the Chargers with seven goals in 13 games.

Berst has recorded 8.2 shutouts and has a school-record 21 career shutouts.

Morningside hosts Dana Saturday in the semfinals of the NAIA Region Three tournament at Olsen Stadium. Morningside takes a 15-2-1 overall record and the Mustangs won the league title with an 11-0-1 mark.

Nedim Hasanbegovic of Hastings was named the player of the year, Josh Miller of Nebraska Wesleyan defensive player of the year and Chris Kranjc of Hastings coch of the year.

Northwestern's Brad White , Andy Janssen and Tyler Sytsma also earned first-team honors, along with Ryan Coon of Dordt. Morningside's Tobias Tessmer and Nate Mausbach and Briar Cliff goalkeeper Buddy Goodenkauf were named to the second team.

" With high school girls basketball coming up its a new season.And theres hopes and dreams for the west sioux high school girls basketball team. Can they make school history? Many think this team can make it to the tyson event center in des miones iowa.This team under sized but has a lot of speed . With ball handlers and speed alot can happen says del ! And with no seniors..on the team there is depth.West siouxs talent starts with the posts junior .."marrisa vandriel"" 5'9 iron tough player is as strong as they get .del says..her strenght is the heart of the team.The other leader is 5 7 guard bobbi mcmanaman with her shooting ability and ball handling..shes a threat inside and out of the paint. This kid can shoot the threes..and polite. good luck ....del ! "
