Tickled Pink raises $66,000

Posted: Tuesday, November 13, 2007
The Siouxland Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure raised more than $66,000 at its recent fourth annual Tickled Pink fundraising event.

Up to 75 percent of the net proceeds will remain in Siouxland where they will be used to fund community outreach and educational programs on breast cancer and breast health. The remaining income will go to the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Program which supports innovative breast cancer research and educational and scientific programs around the world.

In 2007 the Komen Siouxland Affiliate awarded grants to area non-profit organizations to support quality care and treatment for persons with breast cancer. Recipients were:

-- June E. Nylen Cancer Center for its patient navigator program, development of a Lymphedema clinic and SOS, Serving Our Sisters free mammography program;

-- Mercy Medical Center for its hereditary program;

-- Crittenton Center to educate women on breast health care;

-- Floyd Valley Hospital at Le Mars, Iowa, for its pink ribbon campaign breast model;

-- Sioux Center (Iowa) Community Hospital and Health Center to offer mammograms for the underinsured and uninsured women in their service area.

"We are deeply grateful to all of the sponsors, our volunteers and those who attended for making Tickled Pink a strong success," said Susan Hall, vice president of the Komen Siouxland board of directors and Tickled Pink chairperson. "We extend a very special 'thank you' to Art Silva for serving as this year's honorary chairperson."

" It's always nice to see articles like these about fund raising for lymphedema and breast cancer. Lymphedema is still not being diagnosed properly and patients need all the help they can get. If there are patients out there that need help, my support group welcomes you. Our website is www.lymphland.com and the button to join is on the page. We will help you find a therapist and whatever else you need. "
